The xMac mini (2024+) 2U rack-mount system with integrated Echo III module is the ideal rack solution for anyone wishing to use the Mac mini professionally in audio, video and broadcast environments. It combines the processing power of one or two Mac minis with true PCIe expandability and modern Thunderbolt performance in a compact, road-ready 2U chassis.
The integrated Echo III module expands the Mac mini with three PCIe 3.1 slots, enabling the use of numerous professional expansion cards. It supports Thunderbolt-compatible PCIe cards in full-height and full-length formats, with the exception of graphics cards. Up to three Avid Pro Tools HDX cards can also be operated simultaneously. The connection to the Mac mini is made via a single Thunderbolt cable with speeds of up to 40 Gbit/s, enabling a fast and stable connection for the installed hardware.
All key controls and connections are within easy reach. Power buttons on the front panel make it easy to switch the Mac minis on and off, whilst a USB-C port and a cable grommet simplify access to the computer mounted at the rear. The computer and Echo III module can be pulled forwards out of the housing using knurled screws, allowing maintenance or card replacement without having to remove the unit completely.
The case has been specially designed for rack mounting and supports the Mac mini’s airflow. Fresh air is directed specifically to the devices, whilst warm air is vented unhindered to the rear. Two particularly quiet Noctua fans also ensure efficient cooling of the Echo III module and contribute to stable operation even under heavy load.
There is sufficient space beneath the Mac minis for up to two external Thunderbolt or USB SSDs. This allows fast project drives or other bus-powered devices to be safely housed within the enclosure without requiring additional space in the rack. An integrated power hub supplies power to one or two Mac minis via a single mains connection.
A single power cable supplies power to one or two Mac minis as well as the expansion module. Vibration-dampened mounts protect computers and cards during transport. With the included, extendable rack rail , the system be securely mounted in racks with a depth of 16 to 24 inches. With an installation depth of around 16.5 inches, it fits easily into mobile racks and flight cases, and just as reliably into standard server racks.
With its sturdy steel construction and vibration-damping mounts , the xMac mini (2024+) system is suitable not only for permanent studio installation but also for mobile use. Its shallow installation depth means it fits into numerous touring and server racks, making the system a practical solution for live productions, OB vans, control rooms and professional production environments.
