Gibson SG Special 2014 FB Fireburst
Originally introduced in the 60s as the successor to the legendary Les Paul, the SG quickly developed into a popular alternative for many rock musicians. Next to Angus Young and Derek Trucks, even the left-handed Tonny Iommi of Black Sabbath chose the nearly symmetrical body shape as the foundation for their own unique and unmistakable rock sound.
The combination of a Gibson ABR bridge together with a solid stopbar tailpiece gives this guitar that legendary Gibson sustain.
Two 490R and 490T humbuckers in the neck and bridge position deliver legendary PAF sounds and give the sound spectrum a bell-like and defined portion of sustain, especially with wide-open amps. The pickups are wound according to the recipe of Seth Lover are composed of traditional components in the form of Alnico magnets as well as two slightly different and wound in AWG42-wire gauge coils.
Fans of the incredibly open and versatile playing profile of the SG will find exactly what they are looking for with a classic slim neck profile and the typical wide cuts above and below the fretboard, while solid, vintage style Tulip tuners will delivers longevity and great tuning stability, even on-the-road.
Gibson SG Special Heritage Cherry 2014This is a fantastic guitar. The 2014 model, is a stripped backed version of standard and studio models, no refinements, no lacquer, but it has all of the grunt of the SGs of old. The selling point for this guitar is the coil tapping, pushing the sonic capabilities of the SG to tele and strat sounds when needed. Some minor issues, the fret work is very good up to the 12th fret, but after that the builder went on a coffee break. The anniversary inlay is not every ones taste, and it dates the guitar, but this could add value in the future? or not? It could benefit from a new nut, machine heads, and maybe a pick guard, and the frets need some oiling. But a gibson under 600 euro, delivered for free, What more could you want? Well probably a more expensive guitar, but if I was starting out playing- this is the guitar, and a semi-pro this is the guitar, and a pro could use it as a backup or for some slide work etc. Get this one, as it doesn't have the e-tuners, and it looks amazing and sounds like higher priced Gibson's.
