The Music Man John Petrucci JPXI 7 Onyx combines the most popular features of the Dream Theatre string magician's JPX and BFR models into a handy 7-string electric guitar with excellent playing and sound characteristics. The company from San Luis Obispo not only relies on high-quality tonewoods in the form of alder, mahogany, maple and ebony, but also on the proven combination of powerful DiMarzio pickups and a piezo pickup system. Indestructible hardware in the form of a Music Man JP piezo tremolo and precise Schaller M6-IND locking tuners complete the JPXI 7 Onyx from Music Man.
The basis for the lively and well-defined sound of the Music Man JPXI are optimally combined tonewoods of good quality. Accordingly, the solid alder body has a sound-shaping tone block made of mahogany and a maple top, while the five-piece bolted mahogany neck carries a hard ebony fingerboard. The extremely flat neck profile and 20" fingerboard radius also create optimum playability across all 24 stainless steel frets in medium jumbo format.
The magnetic pickups for the Music Man JPXI 7 Onyx are, of course, provided by the New York pickup makers DiMarzio. The DiMarzio Liquifire and Crunch Lab humbuckers, developed in collaboration with John Petrucci, promise a multi-faceted sound spectrum for tight riffing and fluid soloing with maximum distortion or transparently resolved melodies and chords in the clean channel. The Music Man JPXI is also equipped with a piezo pickup system for authentic acoustic guitar sounds.
Last but not least, the Music Man John Petrucci JPXI 7 Onyx impresses with its carefully coordinated hardware equipment, which handles tough tour conditions with unshakable reliability. The proven Music Man JP tremolo with piezo pickups in the tailpieces is used as the bridge. Despite the classic-looking construction, the system suspended on two pins allows excessive whammy bar action such as dive bombs or squeals, while Schaller M6-IND locking tuners guarantee precise tunings with unshakeable stability.
