Radikal Technologies RT-311 Swarm Oscillator is a dual oscillator module in Eurorack format with two main oscillators with sampleable waveforms, oscillator synchronization, TLM and linear and exponential FM. The RT-311 generates oscillator clones and swarms, which allow for example fat detunes. It stores up to 8 such setups in snapshots, which are retained even after switching off the Modular Synth.
The Radikal Technologies RT-311 Swarm Oscillator lives up to its name. The module consists of two oscillators clones and swarms: in the highest setting, the RT-311 Swarm Oscillator plays up to 16 oscillators simultaneously. The Detune parameter affects the pitch of all oscillator clones. If these are detuned against each other, low-frequency beating effects, drones and chords can be realized. The density and detuning of a swarm is set via the Swarm parameters Density and Spread.
A swarm generated by the RT-311 is played in musical intervals, chords, clusters or put together to fat detunes, which can be stored in snapshots. Snapshots allow the playback of up to eight different chords with different sound settings, one of which can be changed during the game. A highlight of the module is the possibility to interpolate between the individual parameters snapshots. Interpolation is controlled with an external control voltage or a built-in LFO. The speed of the internal LFO can be controlled via CV. Whether the fading between snapshots is hard or soft can be chosen according to taste.
Both oscillators of the RT-311 have independent outputs. If the effective depth of an exponential FM input is set to maximum, the input runs with volt/octave scaling. In this case, both oscillators can be used as independent synth voices. The scale inputs of the Swarm Oscillator can be quantized in musical scales. This makes it easy to control the Swarm with a step sequencer.
