What does the SD-3 and the Hemisphere Mic Collection plug-in do?

Universal Audio's SD-3 is a compact dynamic microphone with cardioid polar pattern for drum and instrument recordings with Hemisphere Mic Modeling technology and high sound pressure tolerance. The SD-3 is based on the same microphone modeling technology used in Universal Audio's and Sphere microphones. With the included Hemisphere Mic Collection, it can reproduce the authentic sound of popular dynamic microphones. The Hemisphere Mic Collection plug-in can then be used to adjust the desired filter, the amount of proximity effect and the axis to the sound source. The plug-in works with or without UA hardware and can be used to quickly find the "sweet spot" for a guitar speaker or to tame harsh frequencies from a snare or Toms.

Included Hemisphere Mic Models

DN-57

Introduced in 1965, the ubiquitous "57" is probably the best-selling microphone of all time. It can be a particularly good option when mixed with other microphones, such as ribbons and large diaphragm condensers, for an overall more balanced sound. The DN-57 is based on a newer production model.

DN-545

The predecessor of the mighty 57, this model used the Unidyne III capsule. It was used extensively on The Beach Boys Pet Sounds, including Brian Wilson's lead vocals, and countless other recordings of the era.

DN-604

The DN-604 model is based on a European-made 604 that has become a standard on stages and in studios around the world. This compact clip-on microphone is versatile, especially for snares and toms.

DN-409U

The 409 shines with many sources but is particularly well suited to electric guitar amps. It has a smooth top end, and its low-end response below 100 Hz can help instruments and vocals sit comfortably in the Mix.

DN-4

The DN-4 is based on a modern, compact instrument microphone that is ideal for Toms but can also be used on guitar cabinets and snare drums. Universal Audio has built-in a three-stage filter with which you can further shape the sound.
