The Empirical Labs DocDerr combines tone shaping, compression and tape emulation in a compact 500 Series module. Following over two yearsof intensive development, this versatilemodule offers a powerfulpreamp, a flexible EQ section and uniquedynamics processing – ideal for studio and live applications, or as part of a guitar rig.

Versatile ‘ Preamp ’ for line and instrument signals
The DocDerr’s extremely low-noise preamp is suitable for both line and instrument levels. An internaljumper allows the module to be converted into a high-quality instrument preamp with 16dBgain – perfect for acoustic guitar, bass, synthesiser or exotic plucked instruments.
Musical 4-band EQ with precise frequency settings
The DocDerr’sEQ combines a 2-stage high-pass filter with threeparametric bands, each featuring carefully tuned frequency presets. This allows for precise sound shaping, whether yo ob s for guitars, vocals or drums.
Dynamic processing with parallel compression and tape emulation
Following the EQ is the unique dynamics section, which offers renowned Empirical Labs compression at an exceptional price. In addition, a hidden, musical tape emulation provides gentle high-frequency roll-off and tamed transients – ideal for a warm, analogue sound.
The DocDerr features a unique ‘hidden’ Soft clipper, bzw. tape emulation which can be utilised to the full by deactivating the compressor.
To do this, press the two outer buttons (LF and HF) to switch the compressor on or offum. Then set the Mix to 100% and adjust the saturation using the input control.
