SideStepper - Analog stereo gater/ducker with step sequencer for modern sound design

The SideStepper is a powerful analog stereo g ater and ducker with an integrated step sequencer that combines precise, razor-sharp gating with powerful, musical ducking. Individually programmable stereophonic sequence patterns create dynamic grooves, complex movements in the stereo field and a modern, lively sound. This makes the module ideal for producers, live performers and sound designers who want to actively shape rhythmic structures.

Stereo pattern sequencing with maximum control

The integrated digital step sequencer section enables precise control of the fully analog ducking and gating circuits. Pattern lengths from 1 to 16 steps open up polyrhythmic structures in combination with classic time signatures. Individual step lengths, Shuffle and an integrated random generator ensure organic variations and creative rhythm experiments. Patterns can be edited, adjusted and saved in real time - including convenient pattern switching in the style of modern DAW workflows.

Discrete analog VCA for the highest sound quality

At its heart is a stereo analog, discrete FET-controlled VCA with a high headroom reserve and warm sound character. Dedicated controls for attack, decay, Threshold and depth are used to precisely adjust the dynamic behavior. They can be triggered either via the internal sequencer, an external analog sidechain signal or the main audio signal itself. A CV-controllable bandpass filter in the sidechain path allows targeted frequency selection, for example for Kick or snare.

With a dynamic range of 112 dB, a frequency response of 10 Hz - 40 kHz and extremely low distortion values, the SideStepper delivers professional studio quality. Thanks to MIDI sync, audio PPQN or standalone BPM, the module always stays exactly in tempo. In one-shot mode, the pattern is only played once as soon as an audio signal exceeds the defined Threshold. The mix function also allows the sidechain trigger and main signal to be combined at the output - ideal for timing control or for layered, rhythmic soundscapes.

The module is designed as a Rodec Stereo 100 series module and developed for use with the Rodec 500-to-100 series adapter or the Rodec ONE case. With compact dimensions of 75.85 mm × 80.9 mm (16 HP height), it fits perfectly into professional setups.

Important information: to use the module in the MX Modular or in a housing frame for 500 series modules, the 500 to 100 series adapter from RODEC is recommended!
