With the Fender 1959 Precision Bass NOS Sonic Blue, Custom Shop Master Builder Jason Smith presents a very special interpretation of the legendary electric bass. Based on the classic screw neck construction with alder body and maple neck, the four string offers a number of interesting details that guarantee classic sounds, modern playability and a unique look. These include the contoured neck foot, the hand-wound split coil pickup and the reversed matching headstock.
The Fender 1959 Precision Bass NOS Sonic Blue is based on the screw neck design that has been proven since 1951. Accordingly, the body is made of alder, while the neck is made of maple with standing annual rings (Quarter Sawn Maple). In combination with the classic 9 mm thick rosewood fingerboard, the bass delivers a powerful basic sound with a crisp attack that translates every groove into perfection. The neck has slender jazz bass dimensions and the flat "Modern C" profile, while the fretboard has a compound radius so that every note goes easily out of your fingers. The neck foot is also contoured for unimpeded access to the high positions.
The Fender Custom Shop 1959 Precision Bass uses a hand-wound Fender '57 P-Bass Split Coil as pickup, which convinces with its fat sound. With rich bass, growling mid-range and transparent treble, the pickup puts a lot of pressure on the amplifier and delivers a sustainable bass sound that has shaped countless musical styles between blues, funk, soul and rock. The pickup reacts dynamically to the player, so that every groove and every bass line is implemented precisely. The pickup is classically controlled by a passive circuit with volume and tone controls, which can be used to select a large number of different sound nuances.
For the hardware equipment of the Fender 1959 Precision Bass, Jason Smith uses a harmonious combination of vintage and modern. The strings on the body are guided over the Fender HiMass Bridge, whose heavy construction enhances the sound of sustain and tone definition, while its four individually adjustable string adjusters guarantee perfect intonation and string position. At the headstock the strings run over the classic bone saddle before they find the neck on the open vintage style tuners, which guarantee a precise and stable tuning of the 4-string bass. The New Old Stock (NOS) nitrocellulose finish, which shows no artificial signs of aging, as well as the combination of fretboard binding, large block inlays and the inverted reversed headstock in body colour, also provide optical highlights.
