The MiniLab 3 from Arturia is a USB keyboard controller with a velocity-sensitive 25-mini-key keyboard and is compatible with the vast majority of DAWs (Ableton, Logic, Cubase…), including Arturia plug-ins and AnalogLab. Any parameters can thus be directly assigned to the faders and knobs in the DAW, making the software much easier to use. The eight colour-coded, velocity-sensitive pads offer a defined pressure point and are ideal for dynamically playing percussion and triggering samples. Instead of the familiar pitch bend and modulation wheels, two ribbon controllers are fitted, which are operated by stroking with your fingers. To assist with playing, there is a simple chord function that remembers the last notes pressed simultaneously, and an arpeggiator with a standard repertoire of playback patterns ranging from 1 to 4 octaves. The transport buttons, accessible via the Shift function, control key functions such as recording, tempo, stop and playback within a DAW. Thanks to the MIDI output, the master keyboard is also ideally suited for playing hardware synthesisers.
