What is a 1/2 classical guitar and who is it suitable for?

A 1/2 classical guitar is a smaller classical guitar and is ideal for beginners and young learners. Thanks to its more compact dimensions, it is especially suitable for children aged around 5 to 8 years, depending on height, arm length and hand span. To support young players from the very beginning, we offer a selection of affordable yet high-quality starter guitars that provide a practical introduction to lessons and regular practice.

What are the advantages of 1/2 classical guitars?

With a shorter scale length – meaning the length of the vibrating strings – of around 530 to 580 mm, children will usually find it easier to fret the strings and hold the instrument comfortably. The body width and body depth are also generally smaller than on a full-size guitar. This improves playing comfort and helps children develop a relaxed and correct playing position from the start.

What should you consider when buying a 1/2 classical guitar?

When buying a beginner guitar, parents and teachers should always take the child’s size into account. An instrument that is too large can lead to frustration and make progress more difficult, while a correctly sized guitar supports learning and provides a more comfortable, ergonomic playing experience. Ideally, the child should hold and try out the instrument before buying to make sure the size and playability are genuinely suitable.
