The B1 from Burl is a microphone preamplifier with separate DI input and can be installed in 500 module systems according to API standard. It was designed to complement the B2 Bombers ADC and the B80 Mothership to leave nothing to chance even before the converter. With the proprietary BX3 input transformer and BX2 output transformer, the B1 mic preamp delivers an outstanding warm and clear sound with sheer depth.
A fully discrete transistor Class A circuit with DC coupling and no capacitors gives the B1 amazing punch on drums, beautiful tonality on guitars, and presence and warmth on vocals.
The B1 is equipped with both a gain and a level control for the output level. If a saturated sound is required, which drives the preamp slightly into overdrive and provides enrichment with harmonics, the detented Gain control can be turned up, and the excess level compensated with the Level control. If, on the other hand, a clean transmission is desired, turn the gain control down a bit and compensate with the level control. For ribbon microphones and other low-impedance sources, the B1 has a transformer-coupled impedance selector switch. The B1 has been tested with the popular Royer R-121 in the low impedance setting, and in this combination makes for sparkling eyes, especially on guitar amps.
The B1 gets the best out of any microphone, whether it's dynamic, condenser or ribbon. In addition, the high-quality DI input makes instrument recording quick and easy. With the pad switch, hot signals and balanced line signals can be fed in via the microphone XLR input on the rear panel. This also allows previously recorded tracks or mixes to be sent through the B1 after the fact for warmth and glue. With the B1, you get a reliable and versatile tool for your recording studio that is one of the greats in terms of sound.
