With its original shape and historically accurate appointments, the 1961 Les Paul SG Standard Reissue Stop Bar Cherry Red recreates the iconic 1961 classic, originally introduced as the brand new and agile Les Paul design, the SG soon became one of the immortal guitar designs in the hands of talented musicians such as Tony Iommi, Eric Clapton and Angus Young. The construction of the Gibson 1961 Les Paul SG Standard Reissue Stop Bar Cherry Red is based on classic ingredients with a mahogany body and glued mahogany neck in the traditionally slim Slim Taper C profile, while two Gibson Custom Buckers deliver the SG's correspondingly powerful double winder sounds. Of course there is also an authentic ABR-1/Stopbar combination and six Kluson tuners with authentic single ring wings on board this SG.
For the body construction of the Gibson 1961 Les Paul SG Standard Reissue Stop Bar Cherry Red, the Gibson Custom Shop relies on a single solid piece of mahogany with authentically agile Doublecut SG shaping and easy access to the highest fretboard positions. This is also ensured by the slim neck base of the mahogany neck, while the slender slim taper profile of the sixties creates the best conditions for both classic rhythm riffs and advanced lead techniques. For historically accurate manufacturing processes, the Custom Shop uses hide-glue at important joints such as the neck/body transition or gluing the rosewood fingerboard to create a glass-hard and resonant connection.
In terms of sound, the full tonal image of two Gibson Custom Buckers in neck and bridge position is provided. The two custom shop wound double coils rely on the character-strong sounds of Alnico III magnets and produce everything a guitarist's heart desires from articulate clean to steaming gain sounds. Both pickups are non-waxed and tuned to each other, so that the intermediate position of the 3-way switch also skilfully combines the best qualities of both pickups. For precise tonal control the Gibson Custom Shop uses high quality CTS potentiometers, while the treble roll-off of the tone potentiometers is done by real Black Beauty capacitors.
