A PAR spotlight, often called a PAR can, is a core fixture in professional stage lighting and event lighting. PAR stands for “Parabolic Aluminized Reflector”. Its parabolic design and reflective interior focus the light into a controlled beam, making it ideal for illuminating performers, stage areas, decorative elements or architectural features.
PAR spotlights are available in different sizes, housing types and lighting technologies, from traditional lamp-based models to modern LED PAR spotlights. Alongside extended long nose housings, there are also more compact short nose versions. Thanks to their robust construction, simple handling and wide range of applications, PAR spotlights are suitable for indoor and outdoor use. They are widely used in concerts, theatre productions, clubs, exhibitions and many other live event settings.
The classic version is the PAR can, a cylindrical fixture available in sizes such as PAR 56 and PAR 64, long established in stage and event lighting. For compact setups and smaller venues, flat PARs are an excellent choice. Their slim housing makes them especially suitable for mobile DJ setups, small stages and space-saving lighting rigs. Even more compact are mini PARs, which work well for smaller venues, ambient lighting and precise accent lighting. Each type offers specific advantages, from the rugged build of traditional PAR cans to the flexibility and colour variety of LED PARs.
