The SE Electronics BL8 Omni is a boundary microphone with the same small diaphragm capsule as the popular sE8 condenser microphone. Thanks to its acoustic design, the BL8 also enables very low frequencies to be recorded with high precision, making it ideal for recording kick drums. Thanks to the transformerless Class A circuit , the Mikforon has plenty of headroom without distortion. The omnidirectional polar pattern of the BL8 Omni can be set to one of three switchable levels. There is a switch on the back that can be used to select the characteristic between "classic", "neutral-flat" and "modern". Modern" lowers the mids by 15dB and "classic" by 10dB. The switches for low-cut and att pad are also located on the rear of the microphone and are used to prevent overloading of the mixing console, microphone amplifier or audio interfaces. Low-frequency signal components can be removed at either 80 or 160 Hz using the low-cut switch. An attenuation can be set via Att Pad, which reduces the microphone signal by 10 or 20 dB. The BL8 Omni is made of robust metal and is therefore also suitable for stage use. It can also be attached to flat surfaces, such as walls, but also to the grand piano with two screws, which are not included in the scope of delivery.
