The central keynote of the Handpans is in the middle, around which the chorus of sound fields is arranged in a circle. If the sound fields are now briefly struck by hand, the entire instrument is set in vibration and there is a linear, clear tone with singing sustain. The technique of playing a handpan is comparatively simple to learn: the playing surface is struck briefly with the fingertip, and the faster the hand is then pulled away, the more beautiful the resulting tone.
