Originally presented as a competitor to Martin's D-models during the Second World War, the J-45 soon became a box-office hit due to its concept designed for good sound and excellent playability.
Until today the Gibson Montana Facility builds the Round Shoulder classic according to a proven design recipe with some successful variations. With a solid Sitka spruce top and a solid rosewood soundboard, the J-45 Custom creates a treble rich sound with taut rosewood basses and a tidy midrange spectrum. Last but not least there is the Round-Shoulder Dreadnought including a Hard-Shell Case.
Gibson's J-45 Custom 2018 Vintage Sunburst is a combination of solid Sitka spruce and solid rosewood and is aimed at flat pickers, strummers and songwriters. With a wide dynamic range, crisp attack in the treble and a solid bass foundation, Gibson’s J-45 Custom comfortably fills the frequency band, but also allows for vocal mid-voices such as vocal voices or other melodic instruments in the ensemble.
For easy amplification and plug-and-play recording, Gibson Montana donates the premium pickup system from L.R. Baggs. The system, consisting of pickup and preamplifier, not only offers simple and flexible use on almost every common mixer, recorder, interface or amplifier, but also offers an amazing organic sound. To maintain the pure acoustic sound of the J-45 Custom, Gibson does without unnecessary cuts around the frame area and sets the control panel for volume and tone control in the sound hole of this Round-Shoulder Dreadnought.
