API 2500+

The API 2500+ is a high-quality stereo bus or summing compressor with easily accessible filter and automatic functions that quickly deliver the desired result. In addition to all standard parameters, the attack characteristic (soft/medium/hard knee) and the control circuit (feed forward/back) can be adjusted. This not only provides further options for shaping transients, but also allows the overall sonic character to be switched between a classic, sedate sound (feedback) and a modern, punchy sound (feed forward). The patented “Thrust” circuit utilises a sophisticated side-chain filter and gives the bass a real punch. It can be attenuated using a 3dB/octave high-pass filter or removed entirely from the signal path using the bypass switch. The Link function allows the compression between the left and right channels to influence one another and can be adjusted in 10 per cent increments. Furthermore, the Shape knob can be used to switch the type of influence between peak level and RMS. At the end of the control range, the user can finally choose whether the make-up gain should be set automatically or manually, and mix the compressed and uncompressed signals as required. They can then choose whether to crossfade the wet and dry signals or to blend the wet signal into the dry signal.

The API 2500+ is one of the standard compressors that belongs in the racks of any well-equipped professional studio. It is particularly well-suited to percussive signals and drum mixes, where it can lend the signal punch and power without pumping, whilst preserving the bass range.
