Boasting a stellar feature set that includes our premium-grade XENYX mic preamps, “one-knob” compressors, British EQs and 24-bit onboard FX, BEHRINGER UFX Series mixers are some of the best-sounding compact mixers you’ve ever heard. They are light-years beyond your average mixer, thanks to their built-in 16 x 4 USB/FireWire Interface and 16-Track USB-Recorder. Imagine being able to record your next live gig directly to a USB stick or your PC/Mac computer—and the UFX’s transport section can even function as a remote control center for your computer-based DAW via MIDI.

Behringer XENYX UFX1204 Recording Mischpult with USB
Generally, it works as advertized. Preamps sound good, and built-in EQs and compressors definitely do a good job. Computer connectivity is great, everything works as it is supposed to with my Debian workstation (had to switch DAW control panel to Mackie mode to make it play well with Ardour, but other than that setup was mostly seamless). Built-in recorder can only work in 44.1 and 48 kHz modes, and the lack of 96 kHz mode is a bit upsetting, seeing as how 96 kHz recording is possible when connecting to DAW directly, but it's good enough for recording a gig or a rehearsal session. Built-in FX return level is a bit low for my liking, but effects at least are there in case you didn't bring your FX processor. The lack of a proper manual is a big drawback. Quickstart guide included in the package doesn't cover half of features and usecases, and the full manual it refers to has never been developed by Behringer, so it takes quite a bit of searching through forums and experimenting to understand how to do things. Eventually, you get the mixer to do exactly what you need, but it could take much less time and effort.
