The Sounddevices USBPre 2 is a professional USB audio interface designed for field use. Compared to conventional field recorders with USB function, the USBPre 2 allows high-resolution recordings even in hectic situations: For each channel, the important additional functions high-pass filter and peak limiter can be switched on directly at the device.
The preamplifier and transducer meet the usual studio standards of the upper class and cover a dynamic range of more than 114dB with very high level stability at the same time; even quiet noises can be levelled without having to reckon with overloads in the case of sudden signal peaks or with loss of dynamic range compared to louder ambient noises. In this way, the lifelike reproduction of original sounds or the environment is possible without any problems.
In addition, the USBPre 2 can be used as a standalone converter or amplifier without any conversion time: Hifi equipment or external converters and studio equipment can be connected to the optical and coaxial S/PDIF interfaces, the line outputs allow the use with eg. a video camera. Since there are separate inputs for each reference level (microphone, line, consumer), the already large dynamic range can be used even better without having to make any changes in the software. Apart from that, Sounddevices once again relies on complete control directly at the device without complicated manipulations in a software mixer.
