The Music Man Tim Commerford StingRay was created in close collaboration with the Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave and 7D7D bassist and translates his playing preferences directly into a professional signature instrument. The construction is based on a classic StingRay with an ash body, roasted maple neck and ebony fingerboard, resulting in the usual solid handling, high stability and familiar feel. The passive version relies on a powerful neodymium humbucker, whose sound enables an enormous range of modern and precise sound via a 3-way rotary switch. Although the passive version of the signature woofer has no active electronics under the hood, a passive gain boost can be switched on via the push/push volume control, allowing the sound to be reliably thickened. One striking detail is the height-adjustable finger ramp, which creates an even and ergonomic fingerstyle playing position and is therefore particularly useful for those who work close to the pickup. The string-through-body bridge with classic vintage saddles also features individually adjustable red mute pads that allow the string damping level to be precisely adjusted. Black hardware, a custom neck plate and the choice between caliper Red and Natural round off the striking signature design. Overall, the Tim Commerford StingRay presents itself as a strong workhorse that transfers the functional details of a long-time touring musician into an officially available production model.
