Harrison consoles have contributed to countless legendary productions. Names such as Michael Jackson, ABBA, Led Zeppelin, Queen and Donald Fagen are emblematic of a studio sound that is still regarded as a reference today. The 32Cpre+ translates precisely this character into a modern module format that fits seamlessly into any 500 Series setup.
This is not just any preamp module, but a piece of classic American studio tradition in a much more compact form.
At the heart of the 32Cpre+ is the Jensen JT-MB-CPCA transformer, which is largely responsible for the unique sound character. The preamp offers +20 to +70 dB gain and therefore not only handles classic condenser microphones with ease, but also dynamic microphones and ribbon microphones with plenty of reserves.
This is a real plus point, especially with quieter sources or ribbons with a strong character, because you get enough gain without the sound becoming thin or harsh.
A Harrison preamp without filters would only be half the story. That's why the 32Cpre+ comes with the familiar low-pass and high-pass filters. Both work with a musical slope of 12 dB per octave, whereby the high-pass filter also has a striking 3 dB resonance peak.
The high-pass filter covers 25 Hz to 3.1 kHz, while the low-pass filter operates from 160 Hz to 20 kHz. In practice, this feels less like technical tidying up and more like real sound shaping. This is exactly what makes Harrison filters so popular.
On the front panel is a combo socket consisting of XLR and 6.35 mm jack, which you can use to connect microphones or instruments directly. This saves routing via the rear of the lunchbox rack and makes the 32Cpre+ particularly convenient in everyday use.
In addition, 48V phantom power, polarity reverse, -20 dB pad, HiZ circuit and an input overload LED are available. The module is therefore clearly designed for practical use
The 32Cpre+ is not a special tool for just one task. It is suitable for vocals, acoustic guitars, electric guitars, bass, drums, synths and line signals, always with the aim of making sources sound bigger, rounder and more musical. This module really comes into its own when you want more character during recording.
The sound doesn't just remain "warm", but has that fine blend of density, openness and natural coloration that you immediately hear with good analogue
