After many years of collaboration between Paul Reed Smith and seven-time Grammy Award winner John Mayer, the traditional company from Maryland presents the PRS John Mayer Silver Sky Limited Edition Lunar Ice.
This electric guitar, which is based on characteristic features of early Sixties instruments, is a sophisticated homage to the irrepressible vintage sound of the mid-Sixties and combines the classic specifications of the era with Paul's future-oriented guitar design. For a limited time only, the John Mayer Silver Sky is available in a multi-faceted Lunar Ice finish, so fans better get their hands on it fast!
The John Mayer Silver Sky embodies the ergonomic feel of traditional double cutaway guitars and elevates the timeless design to today's stages. In addition to classic features such as the top-load construction and contours for arm and chest, Paul Reed Smith gave the lower cutaway the typical 'scoop', which especially benefits playing in the highest positions of the fretboard.
The construction of the PRS John Mayer Silver Sky electric guitar follows the classic bolt-on design. The four-piece maple neck with specially designed Silver Sky neckplate carries a maple fingerboard including classic small-bird inlays for fret marking. After the first fingerings, a characteristic vintage feeling spontaneously sets in, not least thanks to John's painstakingly recreated neck profile of classic 63/64 instruments and an extremely low fingerboard radius of 7.25".
Powerful, yet full of character and not too harsh, the PRS 635JM single-coils, specially designed for the PRS John Mayer Silver Sky Limited Edition Lunar Ice, get to work. Full, round and warm sounds are the métier of the single coils, without denying the characteristic sound of the single coils. The pickup circuits, which can be selected via the 5-way blade switch, awaken the entire palette of the set, whereby especially the intermediate positions 2 and 4 testify to the good balance between the pickups.
The hardware of the PRS John Mayer Silver Sky Limited Edition Lunar Ice also remains basically classic, but not entirely without a makeover. First of all, the jack-plate design by Paul Reed Smith has been adapted and rounded to allow instrument cables to be plugged in and out easily. The vintage tremolo, which is held in place by six screws resting on knife edges, is equipped with four steel springs from the factory, which means that the baseplate rests on the body. This not only provides more reliable tunings and double stops, but also a more powerful signal and improved sustain.
