Recordings in the iconic Real World Studio

The Real to Reel SDX was produced in the world-famous Real World Studio in Bath, England - a place where music history has been written for decades. Under the direction of multi-Grammy award-winning producer and engineer Kevin Killen, a sound library was created here that combines the spirit of classic analog technology with the flexibility of modern music production. The recordings took place in three different rooms: the mighty 2,000 square foot Big Room, the acoustically diffuse Wood Room and the narrow, dry Wood Booth. Each room delivers a unique sound character and opens up an enormous stylistic range for producers.

Eight drum sets and countless variations

At the heart of this SDX expansion for Superior Drummer 3 are eight complete drum kits, supplemented by an extensive selection of additional instruments:

  • 13 bass drums
  • 14 snares
  • 25 toms
  • 3 hi-hats
  • 15 cymbals

There are also side snares, octobans, rototoms, Concert Toms and a selection of percussion instruments from cowbells to vibra slaps. Every detail has been sampled with new articulations, right/left hand and maximum precision to guarantee an authentic playing feel.

Analog warmth meets digital precision

A special highlight: all recordings were made simultaneously on tape and digitally. A classic Studer A820 tape recorder was used to create a tonal depth that delivers the famous tape saturation effect. Both options can be freely combined in the Superior Drummer 3 mixer, allowing both warm vintage sounds and hyper-clear digital recordings.

Presets and MIDI grooves by Kevin Killen

The package contains 44 ready-to-mix presets created by Kevin Killen himself. These offer ready-to-use, professionally balanced drum sounds that can be used as the basis for your own mixes. The whole thing is complemented by an extensive MIDI library with over 440 grooves and fills, inspired by legendary Killen productions and recorded by sampling drummer Norman Garschke.
