The instruments from the Gibson Custom Shop, manufactured as part of the True Historic Series, bear witness to the highest precision and present the classic characteristics of the originals. The series is the successor to the LPR models and benefits from the results of the knowledge gained in the Collector's Choice series, from wet intermediate sanding and classic double carving to the use of hot bone glue to come as close as never before to the 1957 legend.
The mahogany neck with long neck foot (Long Neck Tenon) is glued with "Hot Hide Glue" up to the neck pickup. This not only hardens as hard as glass, but also enables neck resets to be carried out accurately by heating the neck gluing. Of course, the neck shaping is based on the strong profile of the 1957s, which has the classic neck thickness with an inch of wood under the 12th fret.
After preparation by modern CNC technology, the authentic "double carving" is ground by hand, whereby all transitions, edges and body binding are checked and adjusted. Last but not least, ageing in the form of cracks in the drying nitrocellulose finish and traces of play at the most common points gives the feeling of an instrument that has been playing for decades.
The 57 was the first Les Paul series model with double humbucker equipment. The double spoolers developed by Seth Lover delivered quite broad sounds compared to the P90 and shaped the predicate of the still coveted P.A.F. sound. With the Gibson Custom Bucker Pickups from the Gibson Custom Shop, the traditional manufacturer uses the classic recipe with two slightly differently wound coils, AWG42 wire thickness and the use of Alnico III magnets and conjures up the warm and bell-like sound of the P.A.F. with a harmonious output balance between sober cleans and strained leads.
