With the PRS Private Stock Super Eagle II John Mayer Signature, Paul Reed Smith and the Connecticut-based singer-songwriter once again join forces to create the ultimate sound tool for guitarists. The Signature electric guitar not only features a careful selection of exquisite woods, but also a combination of special John Mayer pickups, which, together with the elaborate circuitry and the JCF Audio custom preamp, provide every conceivable timbre for expressive electric guitar playing. Furthermore, the PRS Private Stock Super Eagle II convinces with top-class hardware in the form of the PRS Private Stock Gen III Tremolo and precise Tweaked Phase III locking mechanisms.
For the construction of the PRS Super Eagle II, Paul Reed Smith used first-class woods from his private stock. Accordingly, the electric guitar has a body made of selected light mahogany, which resonance chambers lend an airy vibration behavior. The body is rounded off by a Book Matched maple back and a one-piece maple back whose finely drawn grain is perfectly highlighted by the special John Mayer Hemp Green finish. The glued neck, which fits perfectly in the hand with the "Pattern" profile, is also made of intensively drawn curly maple. In the African Blackwood fretboard,"Old School Birds" from precious Paua also mark the positions.
The PRS Super Eagle II uses three humbuckers that are perfectly matched to John Mayer's requirements. Two PRS 58/15 JM pickups sit in the neck and bridge position, whose clear, warm vintage sound reacts with lively dynamics to the player. They are complemented by a PRS Narrowfield JM humbucker in the middle position, which is characterized by a brilliant sound. The pickups can be selected conventionally using the 5-way blade switch, while the sound can be adjusted via Master Volume and Master Tone. In addition, each humbucker has a mini switch at his side, via which he can be split into a single coil. Last but not least, the PRS John Mayer Super Eagle is equipped with a switchable JCF Audio Custom Preamp, which gives the signal a fine-resolution hi-fi quality and also helps to prevent sound loss during long cable runs. When the preamp is active, a treble boost can also be activated to give the sound a harmonic assertiveness.
The equipment of the PRS John Mayer Super Eagle II is completed by perfectly coordinated hardware, which offers unlimited functionality and well thought-out detail solutions. The PRS Private Stock Gen III Tremolo is used as a bridge accordingly. With well thought-out detail solutions such as the compound radius on the string support, revised knife edges on the retaining screws and clamping saddles that hold the string securely, it contributes significantly to the excellent sound development of the electric guitar and also shines with a particularly smooth handling. From the bridge, the strings are guided with a slightly extended scale of 25,375" (644.5 mm) towards the headstock, on which Tweaked PRS Phase III locking mechanisms guarantee an extremely precise and stable tuning. In addition, a small adjusting screw tightens the worm and gear wheel, thus maintaining the shrinkage energy of the string.
