The IK Multimedia Upright Y5 VST is based on the robotic deep multisampling of a modern Yamaha U5 piano with Sostenuto pedal and shines with its direct and intimate sound. This makes it ideal for jazz or pop singer-songwriter material, vocal accompaniment, and any musical setting for which the sound of a giant concert grand might be too overwhelming.

The Yamaha U5 Upright Piano was first introduced in 1967. Intended to be a high-quality, affordable piano that would appeal to a wide range of musicians, it quickly became one of Yamaha's most popular models, which it remains today.

Known for its rich, full sound and responsive action, the and is a popular choice for both beginners and professionals. Furthermore, it is frequently used in concert halls and recording studios. Despite several revisions over the years, it has retained its own character and found its way into the Royal Upright Y5 virtual instrument from IK Multimedia.

Great recordings for a great piano

The piano was carefully recorded in the state-of-the-art IK studio at the company's headquarters in Modena, Italy, in the Emilia-Romagna region, using AKG 414 microphones for close miking and a pair of DPA microphones for miking the back of the piano. The location is an old 15th century monastery that over the years has hosted the best Italian and international artists - from Ennio Morricone to Luciano Pavarotti and Andrea Bocelli.
